W. Bro. Ernest W. Tryner – 100 Years Young
Born 24 September 1925
Past Master of Harrington Lodge No. 5098 (1985)
Harrington Ball 2024: An Evening of Fellowship and Giving
On Wednesday 24th September 2025, members of Harrington Lodge were proud to celebrate the 100th birthday of W. Bro. Ernest W. Tryner, a much-loved Brother and Past Master whose warmth, integrity and long service have left a lasting mark on the Lodge.
This special occasion also marked the advent of Ernest’s 67th year in Freemasonry — a truly extraordinary achievement. To commemorate the milestone, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W. Bro. Martyn Bailey, personally visited Sandiacre Court Care Home to present Ernest with his certificate recognising both his 100th birthday & 67 years of dedicated service to the Craft.
Our Secretary, W. Bro. Steve Sharp, along with Bro Colin Portman attended during the afternoon to deliver a special card and a bottle of Tamnavulin Single Malt on behalf of the Lodge. Ernest was delighted with both and enjoyed a short visit filled with good humour and fond memories.
Later, W. Bro. Charles Cunnington and his wife Karen also called in to extend their congratulations. Charles remarked what a wonderful man and Mason Ernest is — and noted that it was Ernest who had proposed him into every Order he now belongs to in Derbyshire.
Ernest is held in the highest affection by the Brethren, many of whom have benefited from his kindness, encouragement, and example over the years. His centenary is a milestone not only of a long and remarkable life, but of a lifetime devoted to the Craft.
The following evening, at the meeting of Harrington Chapter, the Companions gathered around the Festive Board to sing Happy Birthday to Ernest — a touching gesture filmed by Comp. Dale Bywater and later shared with him. It was a heartfelt expression of Brotherly Love, friendship, and the bond that is woven through years of shared experience in Freemasonry.
Here are some photographs of the visit, capturing a memorable afternoon of smiles, stories, and warm Masonic fellowship.
We hope you enjoy them and feel the spirit of the event of this very special occasion.
A true gentleman and a Mason through and through — congratulations, Ernest, on your 100th birthday and 67 years in the Craft.
